Course Overview

Thoughtfully crafted, the course allows new or isolated workers to quickly get up to speed with key resilience thinking and language and learn how to begin to build their own resilience skills.

Delivered personally by course founder and internationally-renowned resilience expert, Dr Derek Roger, The Challenge of Change Online is presented in clearly and simply presented videos spread over three modules. The course is clearly illustrated alongside self-assessment exercises to cement learning.

The course features a specially-devised version of The Challenge of Change Profile, which is a unique, well-validated psychometric analysis of an individual’s key personality traits and susceptibilities. Results from a stratified, randomised controlled trial showed that the training impacts significantly on sickness-absence, and that the Profile scores are a direct reflection of participants’ developing resilience skills.


Course Components

The course is available for 30 days from the point of registration for use as often as the participant likes. Most find it helpful to take a break between each module.  This provides further opportunities for reflection, as well as for experimenting with new ways of thinking about stress that the training offers. 

Introduction
Video Introduction (6 mins)
This is an introduction to the Challenge of Change Online Resilience Training to provide some background on the course and what to expect from the modules.

The Challenge of Change Profile
Psychometric Questionnaire (15 mins)
The first step in the course is to complete the psychometric Challenge of Change Profile. Participants’ scores are automatically e-mailed to them, but the scores remain completely confidential and nobody else will see them. It is important to remember that what we’re measuring is changeable – if scores indicate behaviour that might need to be modified to help participants develop resilience skills the training provides the means for doing so, and we have ample evidence to show that that these changes can be made by practicing the four steps described in the training.

Waking Up and Controlling Attention
Video Training Module (30 mins)
The first module describes the first two steps in the programme, Waking Up and Controlling Attention.

The Biochemistry of Stress & Profile Scale Debrief
Video Training Module (30 mins)
The second module provides a brief and simple overview of the biochemistry of stress, followed by a detailed debrief of each of the four Profile scales. Watching this allows the participant to understand their individual profile scores.

Becoming Detached and Letting Go
Video Training Module (30 mins)
The final module covers the last two steps in the programme, Becoming Detached and Letting Go.

Additional support material include:

  • A workbook for use during the course.

  • Mindfulness and relaxation exercises.

  • Practical advice for addressing Profile scores emailed the day after completing the Course.

  • Access to the follow-up Challenge of Change Refresher video 90 days later.
